I love vids about characters and/or relationships between characters, romantic or otherwise. I LOVE vids with humor. I love queer and feminist perspectives. I love creative or out-of-context reinterpretations of source material, if they're respectful. I love people being badass, especially ladies. I love complicated feelings that don't fit into boxes. I'm WEAK for a good lyric match (or honestly even a bad one 😂). I don't usually enjoy things that are emotionally serious or sappy.
Re: music, I love almost anything that has both a melody and a beat. If it's pop or sounds like pop I'm probably into it, especially if it's upbeat. I have a special fondness for just about anything from the 1960s, the mid-to-late-2000s emo-pop-punk vibe, K-pop from all over the last decade, and badass women (Dessa, Halestorm, and Paramore are my forever faves). I struggle with most instrumentals and folk music. However, this is all just for inspiration - I love discovering new music and it's way more important that YOU like the song (or other audio) enough to vid!
Video game vids are a special fave of mine, and it's worth mentioning that I love vids that evoke the feeling of playing a game (as opposed to staying fully within the in-game universe), and aren't shy about using gameplay footage instead of or in addition to cutscene footage! Also, I deeply enjoy the genre of fanvid that is literally nothing but video game characters dancing (like this and this and this and this)!
Batman: Wayne Family Adventures (Webcomic)
I have no idea why Batfam is having a fandom renaissance right now but I got ushered in by some fic authors I subscribe to and I'm hooked; I batlove everyone in this batcave. Wayne Family Adventures is (mostly) a fun, lighthearted, very fandom-feeling slice-of-life take on Batman and his many adopted kids, and as someone who knows them almost entirely through fandom anyway I find it a delight. In my heart stalker nerd Tim is my fave of favorites but Jason and his attitude overtake him sometimes in a ranking, and there's nobody I don't adore! I'd love to see anything you put together, from a "meet the family" primer to a batshenanigans vid to a specific character study or fancam to the more serious arc they have going in recent installments. My personal favorite parts of WFA are the Jason-saves-Tim-from-kidnapping running bit, Babs being a badass, everyone sporting non-Batman superhero merch, Dick's dimples, and Steph's sass. (And broadly speaking, I'm down with shipping between the batkids if it doesn't involve Damian or Bruce!)
Coriolanus (National Theatre Live 2014) [SAFETY]
I would be SO thrilled to see any vid that centers Coriolanus and Aufidius and their relationship (especially In A Gay Way), whether the focus is rivals-to-lovers from the first half of the play, or murder boyfriends from the second half, or messy breakup at the end, or straight up romcom out of context, or all of the above! If for whatever reason that's not your thing, (you're missing out, but) I do also appreciate this play for the tragedy of Coriolanus struggling through roles other people force (or manipulate) him into because He Is Not A People Person and he has No Patience For This Bullshit. Many of the play's themes about class conflict and reputation and being a figure in the public eye are somehow especially relevant to politics and celebrity status today, and I don't know if or how that would work in a vid, but could be really interesting to explore. And I'll throw it out there: I find that many themes in Coriolanus vibe with Taylor Swift's Reputation album, if that strikes inspiration for you.
Hades (Video Game)
WHAT a game! I've never been much for roguelikes, but this game is so well designed that it makes even your failures feel satisfying, because you get to go home and pet your dog and talk to your friends and get stronger before trying to break free again, and again, and again. Zagreus is the charming, kind, bisexual disaster protagonist I never knew I needed until he showed up fully formed. I love everyone in this underworld (except Theseus, whom I love to grind into the dirt). I especially love Achilles' mentorship, and Than's pining, and Hypnos being delightfully unhelpful, and Artemis' crits, and the fact that there's a canon bi OT3, and Best Boy Cerberus. I also played and adored most of what's out there in Hades II early access if you'd like to dip in there!
Overcooked (Video Game)
Overcooked is a local co-op coordination game forcing you and your friends to cook meals in increasingly implausible and dangerous kitchen setups and serve them to your customers on time. It's chaotic, it's overwhelming, it's easy for things to spin into disasters and SO satisfying to get things running smoothly. There's a special button for making your character spew a stream of (censored) swearing! Overcooked 2 introduced the game mechanic of yeeting ingredients across the kitchen to be picked up or caught and IMO it's the highlight of the game 😁 I'd love a vid celebrating Overcooked to try to capture the chaos of trying to keep everything under control, or the celebration of things going disastrously wrong, or even the catharsis of screaming together on the couch with your friends, hysterical over your triumphs and defeats.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
I was so skeptical of this show, but I ended up adoring it quickly! It's got wacky sex and violence in abundance (amazing), and it also has heart in abundance (fantastic), and really respects its characters even when they're being total disasters (💯). I love what unabashed nerds the crew are! They're all my favorites, and Mariner is most my favorite (but Tendi is close and so is Doctor T'Ana). I'd be on board with any kind of vid, from "Unsettling Space Hijinks" to "Character Study" to "Ensemble" to "Mariner is Bi" to "Tendi's Dog" to "Deep Cut Star Trek References" (of which I would probably only get the DS9 jokes, but knock yourself out!).
Stardust [SAFETY]
My favorite movie, I think?? I love that it's an adventure fairytale that features a compelling strangers-to-lovers arc! Tristan's glow-up, Captain Shakespeare and especially his long-suffering first mate, and the dysfunctional dead royal family are more favorites. Adventure, romance, witchcraft, road trips, whatever you love, pick your angle and go for it!!
Taskmaster (UK)
SHENANIGANS! UTTER CHAOS! I LOVE the generally-harmless-fun off-the-wall crap everyone on this show comes up with. I LOVE creative solutions that nobody saw coming. I love what a good sport Alex is for putting up with absolutely everything. I love Greg's attitude as a more-or-less-benevolent dictator. I love all the creativity a pointless task can generate. I love it when candidates team up and get along with and make fun of each other. I love every candidate who trails too far behind by mid-season to have a hope of winning, but leans into it and has fun anyway.
I'll confess to being a few series behind at this point but there will NEVER be enough Taskmaster vids! General shenanigans or a tribute to a favorite series, or character, or genre of task are always great ways to go!
