Hi, Festividder! I'm easily pleased and love surprises, so take everything here for inspiration rather than directives, and make the vid of your heart 💖

Re: vids, I love: humor, queer and feminist perspectives, complicated feelings that don't fit into boxes, people being badass, dancing, musicality, and corny lyrics matches!!
I struggle with: things that are emotionally serious or sappy.

Re: music, I love: almost anything that has both a melody and a beat, 1960s rock'n'roll, emo-pop-punk, kpop, badass women (especially Dessa, Halestorm, Paramore)
I struggle with: most instrumentals and folk music

Small list this year but every one of these is dear to my little heart right now ❤️

Batman (1966) (TV and Film)

Holy shenanigans, Batman! I've had a soft spot for this crazy, goofy 60s show (and movie) for long before I fell into the Batfandom proper. I adore how it doesn't take itself seriously at all and yet commits so hard to everything it does. The "golly gee, Batman, when you put it that way I guess I SHOULD wear my seatbelt!" energy Robin has is a thing of beauty, and Robin in general is a favorite. I'd adore a vid that captures the particular mix of earnestness and ridiculousness that this show emanates, or one that goes all in on the wildest moments out of context, or a tribute to the meticulous labeling in the Batcave, or a showcase of the Dynamic Duo (or Trio!) and/or their Rogues Gallery in whatever way best pleases you!

Hamlet (1921) [SAFETY]

An incredibly stylish silent adaptation of Hamlet featuring "Die Asta" Nielsen as a female Hamlet, disguised as male from birth. She goes to Wittenberg, has a meet-cute with Horatio, comes back to Elsinore, faces her Saturday-morning-cartoon-villain uncle Claudius, falls in love with Horatio while disguised as a boy, courts Ophelia so Horatio won't, and plays out the destiny of all Hamlets (plus a kiss for Horatio).

One of the coolest things about this film is that while it was (by definition, in 1921) shot in black and white, some of the release versions were created with color tinting, making every scene black-and-orange, or black-and-blue, or black-and-yellow; the filming of fire or a torch in some of the orange-tinted scenes makes an incredibly cool effect. It could be really fun to play with that color or your own color in a vid!

The highest quality source I know of is the color-restored version released on German DVD in 2007; I think this is the version that can be found here on Youtube! (There may be other releases I don't know about offhand!)

Star Trek: Lower Decks

Lower Decks has wacky sex and violence in abundance (amazing), and it also has heart in abundance (fantastic), and really respects its characters even when they're being total disasters (💯). I love what unabashed nerds the crew are! They're all my favorites, and Mariner is most my favorite (but Tendi is VERY close and so is Doctor T'Ana). I'd be on board with any kind of vid, from "Unsettling Space Hijinks" to "Character Study" to "Ensemble Friendship" to "Mariner is Bi" to "Tendi's Dog" to "Deep Cut Star Trek References"!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Video Game)

KOTOR is a Star Wars RPG set long before the movies and based on a D20 game style, with iconic characters (including a bloodthirsty droid, an angry lesbian catgirl, and a snarky true-grey Jedi) and a story that I'm still cagey about discussing in public 22 years later in case it robs anyone of their blind first-time experience. If you have any interest in playing it for yourself (it's on Steam! and mobile! and Switch!), go do that first!

I would deeply love to see a tribute to female (or non-binary, or gender-ambiguous or genderfluid or collective-of-many-genders) Revan; it was a tragedy for the franchise to canonize a form for Revan in a later game and I reject it. That said, Revan is not the only thing to love about KOTOR, though you wouldn't know it from looking through existing vids! The entire crew is a delight, and I have special love for Mission, HK-47, Jolee, (and Carth's voice); I'd love to see a vid for any of the characters, or love for the Ebon Hawk, or a tribute to the gameplay in general. My only DNW is male Revan, unless it's part of a tribute to the versatility of the character (or otherwise contextualized). I say this every time, but I adore video game vids that evoke the feeling of playing a game (as opposed to staying fully within the in-game universe), and aren't shy about using gameplay footage instead of or in addition to cutscene footage!

Tono to Inu (anime) [SAFETY]

An extremely short and overwhelmingly adorable anime adaptation of a manga about a grumpy retired samurai and the goofy corgi who terrorizes/adopts him and the rest of the town. To my knowledge it hasn't been translated into English by anybody but it doesn't need to be to get the heart of the short stories (24 eps x 1.5 min each)! I love corgis so much and a cute corgi vid would be everything 💖

Available on Youtube! (If you come across other versions, it's the same animation with a different main voice actor!)
